second trimester of pregnancy (13 to 26 Weeks)

The second trimester is full of vitality. It is a stage where you have energy to do different things, like taking care of your body, taking care of your skin with respectful ingredients, shopping for your baby and for you. In addition, you are experiencing body changes, making the pregnancy process tangible.

Your baby can already hear you and you can feel his movements, which is fascinating. Follow their growth, programming and development, influenced by genetics and environmental factors, such as what we put on our skin.

Skin changes during the second trimester of pregnancy.

During the 4th and 6th month of gestation, the fetus already acquires a certain size, as does the placenta, also due to an increased amount of amniotic fluid. As a result, the belly begins to grow and the skin begins to be subjected to tightness and increased stress.

The hormones estrogen and progesterone continue to increase in concentration; the immune system continues its adaptation to allow the growth of the new being; in addition to metabolic and vascular changes. These changes will lead to more pronounced changes in the skin.

From the beginning of pregnancy, the skin becomes more sensitive and irritable. You may experience that the use of your daily cream now produces a reaction. In addition, the skin may become drier and flaky.

It is also more irrigated, which contributes to its greater sensitivity and may also cause an itching sensation; on the other hand, in addition to greater irrigation, there is vasodilatation, which may help the active ingredients to penetrate more deeply.

Due to the increase of certain hormones, there is a greater retention of water, which may cause certain discomforts such as swelling and edema in certain areas.

Skin pigmentation is more pronounced at this time, with darkening of the nipples, areolas, linea alba, vulva, among other parts.

And the breasts become more turgid, due to fluid retention and increased mass.

Skin care tips in the second trimester

During the second trimester, we must begin to prepare the skin to prevent the formation of stretch marks. For this we need moisturizing, nourishing formulas, rich in oils and butters, and with repairing and soothing active ingredients. We will use them on different parts of the body, such as the stomach, thighs, buttocks, hips, armpits and breasts. In the latter, we must also work on the elasticity of the nipple to be prepared for breastfeeding and thus avoid the appearance of cracks.

We are still facing a more sensitive skin with greater irrigation and penetration power of the active ingredients, which requires extremely delicate products, indicated for sensitive skin, free of allergens and toxins, which care for the skin and protect the pregnancy and the baby's life.
